outreach opportunities

  • Community Suppers: Our monthly community supper program was established in 2014 to offer a free home-cooked meal to anyone who wishes to come. Invitations are sent to six shelters and the meal is also advertised through local food pantries. We serve an average of 70-80 meals each month. New relationships have started to build as some of our guests have begun to occasionally attend Sunday morning services.
  • Medical Ministry: Providing affordable health care is one of the biggest challenges facing our society. Through its Medical Ministry, Wesley ensures that those without adequate resources have access to quality eye care and hearing.
  • Carty Cupboard: Over the years, Wesley has provided meals for individuals and families in need. Volunteers support the ministry by shopping for the Carty Cupboard Food Pantry or giving their time and service in distributing the food. Rather than seeing a lessening of need over the years, hunger remains a serious issue in our communities. Through the Carty Cupboard, people have a place to turn to when their cupboards are bare and resources depleted.
  • Hope for Housing: Central Massachusetts is a non-profit program developed to utilize the collective buying power of congregations to prevent family homelessness and to advocate for the homeless.
  • Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) is a national organization that unites the religious community in an effort to serve and nurture homeless families regardless of income and family structure. The office of Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Worcester is now located at 91 June Street, Worcester, MA 01602. Wesley United Methodist Church volunteers for two weeks each year to the families supported by the Interfaith Hospitality Network. If you are interested in volunteering your time to support this ministry, please visit their website at http://ihnworcester.org/. If you are in need of a shelter program, please contact them directly via email ihn@ihnworcester.org or at 508-755-2212.
  • Prayers & Squares: The Prayers and Squares Quilt Ministry offers comfort, compassion, hope and healing to those experiencing challenges of mind, body and spirit–as well as offering companionship for the quilters. Many people now know first-hand to comfort and gift the quilting ministry provides.
  • Mission Trips: Our congregation supports mission not only through monetary contributions but adult volunteers have offered direct service as team members on mission trips to New Orleans, Haiti, and Nicaragua, and our youth have traveled to Eliot, Maine with U.M. Army.
